Athletic recovery

“Competitive edge" – this is the driving force of both human and equine athletes.

It is a determinant in an athlete’s ability to produce winning results and operate with optimal functionality at all times. EMLD has been proven to reduce recovery times after periods of high exertion leading to less stiffness and soreness.

EMLD increases the flow of lymph by more than 10 times the normal rate per minute and increases lymphocyte production. When the lymph is free of cellular debris,it can effectively eradicate toxins such as lactic acid that prevent the horse’s body from smooth operations and deliver healthy nutrients for optimal performance.
A recent study has shown the effectiveness of EMLD in decreasing recovery time. The study considered the effect of EMLD on three muscle enzymes that are produced following the breakdown of tissue during exercise. EMLD was found to be effective at increasing the rate at which serum muscle enzymes decrease after exercise and indicate improved regeneration of structural damage to muscle cell integrity.
Improved muscular recovery means optimal training. Optimal training means optimal performance and improved results.

Treatment of Laminitis

Because MLD encourages lymph drainage from the body's tissues it relieves inflammation, reduces oedema (swelling) and drains toxins and fluids. When used in horses with acute laminitis it limits the inflammatory response,drains oedema and tissue debris (eg. damaged cells) reducing pressure within the hoof and limits processes damaging the lamellae.
Prompt MLD treatment can help speed up recovery and reduce internal hoof damage in affected horses.

Reduction in swelling ('Oedema')

Oedema is excess fluid in the tissues that can have many causes. Equine MLD can be used to treat swollen limbs due to lymphoedema eg. swelling after bouts of 'lymphangitis'.By stimulating the lymphatic system the excess fluid can be drained from the affected area. Equine MLD is also wonderful for horses on stall rest or horses preparing for or returning from transport.

Pre- / Post-Surgery

EMLD pre- and post-surgery leads to greatly reduced recovery times .eg.orthopaedic surgery,dental surgery,castration,colic operations etc. By performing EMLD pre-op the lymphatic system is at peak performance preparing the tissues before surgery. Post-op EMLD continues to keep the natural healing cells flowing to accelerate the healing process by eliminating oedema(swelling) and bruising. In turn this leads to less pain, less down-time, better scar formation and the return to normal activities in a fraction of the time.

EMLD boosts immunity and improves fertility

Immunological factors are increasingly believed to be a contributing factor in infertility issues. A well functioning lymphatic system plays an important part in the body’s immune responses. In humans,MLD is increasingly being recommended by fertility experts for women who are having trouble conceiving and preparing for fertility treatment.
The equine lymphatic system similarly plays a key role in the circulation of hormones.If the lymphatic system is not functioning well the circulation of fertility hormones can be delayed and disrupt the ability to conceive.
A course of MLD can be highly beneficial to oestrogen levels in mares by stimulating the production of Luteinizing hormone (LH) which in turn stimulates ovulation. In stallions LH acts upon the Leydig cells,resulting in testosterone production.
Without LH, ovulation would not progress to completion.In stallions,a deficiency of LH would result in a reduction in testosterone levels. This would decrease libido and cause an interruption in the completion of spermatogenesis.

Treatment of Equine Rhabdomyolosis / “Tying-up Syndrome”

Tying-up is caused by a disturbance in the horses’ metabolism which leads to an over-acidification of the muscles.This leads to cramping of the muscles and strongly influences the general condition of the horse.Research in Germany has shown that EMLD helps to remove these metabolic wastes from the muscles and the horses show less muscular symptoms and recover faster. In these cases EMLD should only be used if there is no risk of kidney damage.

  • Promotes healing of ligaments
  • Poorly healing fractures
  • Haematomas
  • Bruising (soft tissue & bone)
  • Burns,grazing & lacerations
  • Any other traumatic injury

It is recommended that EMLD should be used as soon as possible after conditions arise because tissue changes occur which are less responsive to treatment meaning that a larger number of treatments will be necessary to achieve favourable results.
